WHAT IS TOOTH BONDING?
Tooth bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment that bonds tooth-colored resin material to the surface of one’s tooth to enhance its color, shape, and/or size. Tooth bonding is a common procedure that is quick, pain-free, and effective at resolving many cosmetic dental concerns, such as:
- Enhancing the color of stained teeth
- Restoring chipped or cracked teeth
- Filling in the gaps between teeth
- Repairing cavities in decayed teeth
- Replacing silver cavities
Dental bonding is safe for nearly any patient, however, it’s important that the patient has good oral health habits and isn’t experiencing any major oral health concerns.
DENTAL BONDING PROCESS
Unless your dental bonding is being used to fill a cavity, anesthesia is not needed during a tooth bonding treatment. In fact, there is no need to prepare for your procedure since having your teeth bonded is minimally invasive. While it usually takes between 30 minutes and one hour to have a tooth (or two) bonded, the length of your bonding treatment will depend on the condition of your teeth and how many you’re having bonded.
During your dental bonding procedure, the following will take place:
- After examining your teeth, Dr. Vinton will find the ideal shade of composite to blend with the color of your other natural teeth.
- Next, he will roughen the surface of the tooth that he intends to bond and apply a conditioning liquid to the tooth to prepare it for the composite.
- Then, he will place the resin on the tooth and mold it to the preferred size and shape.
- Dr. Vinton will use a special light to help the resin bond to the tooth.
- Finally, he will trim and polish the bonded tooth, making any necessary adjustments for the perfect result.
COMPOSITE BONDING CARE
It’s important to care for your composite bonding to ensure that it looks great and stays strong for years. The best way to keep your dental bonding in good condition is to practice good oral health habits at home, including daily brushing and flossing, as well as avoid biting down on hard items, such as ice, fingernails, and pens.
DENTAL BONDING COST
The cost of your dental bonding will depend on how many teeth you’re having treated as well as what your dental insurance plan covers. Please contact our dental office for information on your particular insurance plan.
HOW LONG DOES TOOTH BONDING LAST?
The length of your dental bonding will depend on your oral hygiene habits and where it’s located in your mouth. Tooth bonding can last as long as ten years with good at-home oral health care and routine dental visits twice a year.
