same day crowns

WHAT IS A DENTAL CROWN?

Dental crowns, sometimes known as fake teeth caps, are customized tooth-shaped coverings that go over a damaged or unsightly tooth, improving its strength, function, or appearance. Dental crowns are cemented dental restorations that completely cover the visible part of a person’s tooth.

WHY WOULD I NEED A DENTAL CROWN?

Dental crowns can be used to address several oral health concerns, including:

●       Holding a cracked or broken tooth together

●       Strengthening a weak tooth

●       Supporting a dental bridge

●       Protecting a tooth with a large filling

●       Improving the appearance of a severely damaged or discolored tooth

Dental crowns are a fast and convenient option to restore damaged or vulnerable teeth overall health and appearance.

WHAT’S INVOLVED IN THE SAME DAY DENTAL CROWN PROCEDURE?

If the dentist determines that you need a dental crown, it’s possible that you can walk out of the dentist office with your new crown without the need for a follow-up appointment. If for some reason Dr. Vinton is unable to complete the process immediately, you may be asked to come back so that the Soothing Dental team can create and bond your new tooth in a single appointment.

HOW IS THE TREATMENT PROCESS FROM SAY DAY CROWNS DIFFERENT FROM TRADITIONAL DENTAL CROWNS?

Receiving a Same Day Crown is much faster and more pleasant than the traditional process of creating a dental crown. Same day crown appointments are completed in a single visit at Soothing Dental. Instead of taking messy, unpleasant molds of your mouth, Dr. Vinton uses an intraoral camera and 3D computer-aided design to create a scan of your damaged tooth.

After creating the crown’s digital model, a CEREC machine mills your new crown in as little as 2 hours while you wait in our office. You even have the opportunity to observe the milling process and watch your new tooth get created. When the new crown is complete, we will prepare your tooth and bond your new ceramic crown into your mouth. Usually, the whole process only takes about two hours! Getting a more traditional crown takes two visits. During the first visit, the dentist needs to take x-rays, dental molds, and apply a temporary crown to protect the problem tooth while your permanent crown is created at a lab. Creating a permanent crown the traditional way means waiting for 2-3 weeks as your dentist sends the mold of your teeth to an outside lab. During your second visit, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and bond your permanent crown. Same day crowns provide a high quality, quick, and convenient option for replacing a tooth, making the entire process less stressful.

ARE DENTAL CROWNS PAINFUL?

The process of receiving a same-day dental crown is relatively pain-free. To ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during your procedure, your dentist will numb your tooth before filling it down or adhering the crown to your remaining tooth. Once your crown is cemented, it’s possible to experience the same tooth pain you would with your natural tooth.

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY DENTAL CROWN?

Permanent crowns should be cared for as if they were natural teeth with daily brushing and flossing, as well as routine dental appointments.

HOW LONG DO SAME-DAY DENTAL CROWNS LAST?

Same-day crowns and traditional crowns have the same longevity. You can expect your crown to last between 5 and 15 years with good oral hygiene and regular checkups at the dentist.
